Exercise Eight: Repenting of Ancestral Sin

This exercise is designed to help you identify, confess, and renounce the dominant sins of your family line. Read through the following list of sins and occult activities. As you do, take a sheet of paper and make a list of any of these that you know were present in your family history.

Using the prayer of repentace at the end of this section, pray through your list, confessing and renouncing the sins. Then, in the name of Jesus, take authority over any curses or iniquity and break them from your family line.

Common ancestral sins:

Abortion, Adultery, Anti-Semitism, Being Argumentative, Being Critical, Being unloving, Bragging, Brawling, Condemnation, Coveting, Cruelty, Cursing, Dishonesty, Disobedience, Drunkenness, Drug Abuse, Envy, Fear, Foul Talk, Gluttony, Gossip, Graven Images, Idolatry, Greed, Hate, Homosexuality, Immorality, Impatience, Impurity, Insolence, Jealousy, Judgmentalism, Lack of Pity, Lawlessness, Laziness, Legalism, Love of Money, Lust, Lying, Manipulation, Materialism, Murder, Perjury, Pornography, Prejudice/racism, Profanity, Promise Breaking, Prostitution, Pride, Rage, Rebellion, Resentment, Sensuality (Living for pleasure), Stealing from God (not tithing), Stubbornness, Thievery, Unbelief, Unforgiveness, Walking in Bitterness, Worry, Wrong doctrine.

Write down any other sins you know of in your family line.

Also repent of any of these occult practices:

Amulets, Astrology, Carved images, Divination, Dowsing (water witching), False worship, Fortune telling, Freemasonry (or membership in other secret societies), Good luck charms, Folk healing, Fortune telling, Horoscopes, Idolatry, Mesmerism, Mind or thought control, New Age activities, Ouija board, Out of body experiences, Astral projection, Palm reading, Psychic healing, Psychic reading, Reincarnation, Séances, Spiritualism, Sorcery, Superstition, Table lifting, Tarot cards, Telekinesis, TM (Eastern Meditation), Voodoo, Witchcraft, Yoga (as a religious or spiritual practice).

Write down any other occult activity you are aware of in your family line.

Prayer of Repentance

Dear Lord,

I confess that my family (nation, church, etc.) is guilty of… (Read the sins and occult practices you have listed.). I acknowledge that through these sins and practices we have opened a door to judgment, curses, and demonic oppression upon ourselves.

I agree with You that these things are wrong. I choose, as an act of my will, to renounce these sins and turn from them. I claim the forgiveness and protection of the blood of Jesus. Thank you that Jesus took my curse and judgment upon Himself. By His authority I now break every curse and demonic assignment that has come against me as a result of these ancestral sins. I thank you that the blood of Jesus has set me free.

I pray that the blessings of salvation be released to my family line in Jesus name. Amen.

Now thank God for the good things you have received from your family, and that the curse of ancestral sin has been broken from your life. Tear up your list and throw it away.

Ask Holy Spirit to fill you afresh!
